How to play Slot

Slot machines are the most popular attraction on the gambling floor of almost any casino. They also are the largest revenue creator for most casinos.  This has not always been the case, in fact when the slot machine was first introduced to the casino floor, it was to occupy the time of the wives and girlfriends of the big time gamblers.  Jackpots were relatively small and the players were not considered a focus of the casino.

Now it has been determined that as many as 80% of the first time visitors and a high percentage of return visitors head straight for the slot machines.  Why does this happen?  It is because it is easy to do; just drop in your coins, pull the handle or push the button and see what happens.  Someone new to the casino environment can easily get comfortable with this activity.  It is also less intimidating than trying to move up to one of the betting tables and interact with the other players.  Also most of the largest payouts from casinos come from the slot machines; who would not enjoy that.

The most popular slot machines are the penny and nickel versions, since the players feel that the can play longer and loose less money.  Slot machines also come in quarter and dollar varieties and most now accept multiple coins for multiple plays.

The newer machines are now fitted with currency acceptors, which allow you to put a certain amount of money into the machine for credits.  You then play these credits by pushing a button until the number of credits you wish to play for this spin is reached.  Once you have the correct number of credit on the play line, you push the button or pull the handle.  Some machines have a “play max credit” button which allows you to play the maximum amount of credits allowed for the spin without having to increase the level one at a time.

Many reel-spinning slot games have a single payout line.  This is usually the center line and is marked with a single line across the middle of the game.  Others have variations of his with payout for top line, bottom line of even diagonal.  Each additional payout line requires the playing of an additional credit.

The payout is determined by the symbols that stop on a payout line.  Common payout symbols are cherries, bars (single, double or triple bars on top of each other) or sevens.  For some other novelty type machines, they may use cartoon characters or other symbols depending on the name of the game.

Also, special symbols may trigger special bonus that can be won.  These bonuses might take the form of free spins or the player may be offered a chance to win a special bonus of a second screen that appears which will provide additional information on how to collect your bonus.  These types of bonus rounds are becoming more and more popular with new video slot games.

When a winning combination does occur, your winnings are added to the credit meter on most games.  Once you have finished playing or when you want to collect your winning, you need to “cash out” of the game.  This is accomplished by pushing the “cash out” button and then collecting your winning from either the bar-coded ticket or on older machines the drop tray at the bottom of the machine.
